FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS MEDICAL GRADE CANNABIS?

Also known as medical marijuana, MGC refers to cannabis when it is used to treat or relieve a variety of symptoms, ailments or conditions rather than for recreational or spiritual purposes. Any cannabis which contains an effective amount of active cannabinoids can be considered medicinal cannabis if it is used for that purpose.

HOW DOES THC WORK?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, was identified in 1964 in Israel as being primarily responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis. This breakthrough opened the door to decades of research, both in Israel and all over the globe.

As THC enters the brain, it causes the patient to feel euphoric effects acting on the brain's reward system, which creates the positive response feedback. The chemical dopamine is released as an effect. THC thus stimulates a feeling of relaxation, heightened sensory perception, increased appetite, altered perception of time, and laughter. Effects may vary amongst individuals.

By stimulating the hormones associated with positive feelings, THC can be effective in treating aggression, fatigue, anxiety; as well as alleviate symptoms from chemotherapy such as nausea, or lack of appetite associated with HIV/AIDS patients.

HOW DOES CBD WORK?

CBD or Cannabidiol is one of approx. 100 cannabinoids identified in cannabis. It is a major phytocannabinoid, accounting for up to 40% of the plant's extract. CBD is considered to have a wide scope of medical applications.

Unlike THC it does not cause a high. This gives the chemical a significant advantage as a medicine, since health professionals prefer treatments with minimal side effects.

CBD is non-psychoactive because it does not act on the same pathways as THC. These pathways, called CB1 receptors, are highly concentrated in the brain and are responsible for the mind-altering effects of THC.

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE BEST STRAIN FOR MY SYMPTOMS?

There are many different strains of Medical Grade Cannabis with new strains constantly being developed. Each strain offers a unique set of medical benefits based on its genetic.

Sativa

Best choice for daytime use. It has energetic and stimulant effects. It helps to reduce migraines, pain, nausea and it leads to an increase appetite. Reported side effects include hyperactivity and anxiety.

Indica
This strain is for patients who require a relaxant, sleep aid, or those who suffer from arthritis, glaucoma, muscle tension, inflammation.

Hybrid
This strain option includes a hybrid of the two above: Indica and Sativa, creating different combinations of the dominant charcteristics. Hybrid strains can support a large variety of medical uses and effects. Hybrid strains are created to produce effects that are normally associated with either Indica or Sativa strains.

High CBD
The euphoric effects of strains with high CBD are milder than other strains. These strains are created to serve for patients searching for a treatment meant to reduce inflammation, muscle spasms and insomnia.

AROMA AND FLAVOR

Cannabis strains are also distinguished by the variety of terpenes they produce, which contribute to differences in aroma and flavor. Terpenes modify the effects of THC and other cannabinoids, augmenting a strain's medicinal properties.
